Diaries don’t seem to be in vogue today the way they once were. Perhaps they are being refurbished in the form of social media sites. At any rate, in the early to mid 19th century personal pocket diaries were very popular and quite encyclopedic in their contents. This week we’ve picked out of the Delaware Historical Society’s rare book collection The Souvenir or Picturesque Pocket Diary for 1826 With An Almanack Ruled Pages for Memoranda, Literary Selections and a Variety of Useful Information. Published in Philadelphia by A.R. Poole. This tiny amalgam of factoids was originally owned by one Maria Jones.
