Remembering The Great War in Delaware: ‘Belligerents Talk of Peace’ After a Bruising August in 1915. Sudden End of War Predicted.

This first week of September we salute Delaware soldiers Raymond Beyerlein, Eugene Enalls Berl, and Anthony H. Schoellhorn. The Wilmington Sunday Star presents a profound glimmer of hope to its’ readers in early September of 1915 for an end to the disquiet of the European War. The insane escalation of hostility across Europe in August 1915 seems to have snapped Germany and perhaps other countries back from the brink of total chaos. Previous posts on this blog for August are a revealing preface to the bloodlust and weariness which led to today’s headline: “BELLIGERENTS TALK PEACE”
