The 361st Fighter Group in World War II

In recognition of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we honor our Flyboys with this week’s rare book “Little Friends, A Pictorial History of The 361st Fighter Group in World War II” by Steve Gotts. Excerpts of this informative and pictorially rich hardcover book are provided. It was published in Dallas, Texas by the Taylor Publishing Company in 1993.

Also included is a personal note by Captain Robert, R. Volkman, Sr., the donor of the book. Captain Volkman also included several pages of his personal experiences in the 361st. These pages are stapled inside. A few are included in this post.

  1. Robert Volkman flew 61 combat missions in the European Theater in 1944 and 1945. He was a great father and husband, married for over 65 years to the love of his life. He is greatly missed.
