Baseball Hall of Famer Judy Johnson is the subject of today’s blog post. Johnson was a star third baseman of the Negro Leagues in the 1920’s & 1930’s. He played for the Hillendale Giants and later the Pittsburgh Crawfords. Johnson spent most of his childhood in Wilmington, Delaware with his family before launching his baseball career with the Hillendale club. The current Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball team play on a field named in his honor, Judy Johnson Field in Daniel Frawley Stadium at the Wilmington Riverfront.
