“The Gunner”, 1965

Nestled on the Delaware River just north of the gateway to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal is the placid town of Delaware City. Our featured yearbook is from the town’s high school, Gunning Bedford Jr. High School in 1965. This item, as with a previously highlighted “Gunner” was formerly owned by a student of the school, Courtney Neilson (picture #6). The school is named after lawyer and politician Gunning Bedford Jr. (April 13, 1747 – March 30, 1812). He served in the Delaware General Assembly, as a Continental Congressman from Delaware and as a delegate to the U.S. Constitutional Convention of 1787.
