100 Years Ago Today; Remembering The First World War in Delaware.

We offer the military service records of Guy Stollenwerck (pictured),  Thomas Smith, and African American John Burres in this post.   The “Wilmington Morning News” will be our feature daily newspaper for the foreseeable future, replacing the “Sunday Star” which has served us well for coverage of WWI. The Wilmington News was a daily paper and in many cases, such as in this post, we are able to provide excerpts from issues exactly 100 years ago to the day. We see here the September 25th, 1917 issue. Although similar in style to the Sunday Star, the News appears to focus more on the war.  It may be somewhat surprising to see a section for horoscopes in a newspaper of the early 20th century, which indicates astrology was popular long before the 1960’s, a decade it is often identified with.
